AMERICA'S ECONOMIC RECOVERY IS THROUGH SMALL BUSINESS - NOT BIG GOVERNMENT

As I wander around meeting with other small business people, I am amazed at the wonderful spirit of adventure and accomplishment small business owners have for what they do. The energy of being independent and in charge of one's own destiny is truly powerful and can help a person overcome incredible odds to gain success. Meeting and speaking with most small business people is truly inspiring.

On the other hand, people who have never experienced being in business for themselves seem to have tremendous difficulty in understanding why small business people stay so motivated, even when the odds are against them. People without small business experience often shake their heads and remark that there is no way they would take similar risks. As we watch government workers demand more and more benefits, union leaders demand more and more benefits, financial industry workers demand more and more pay, big business demands more and more benefits, special interest groups demand more and more from government; we have to seriously wonder if there is any sanity left in the world for understanding who is truly paying the bills for all of these demands.

This is truly unfortunate, especially in today's economic recession where small business is being crushed under the ever increasing burden of government regulation and taxation. Government people and lawmakers at all levels are proving that they have little to no experience in business as they continue to approve more and more government spending that requires ever higher tax burdens on small businesses and their owners. Lawmakers as a whole are totally out of control and totally out of touch with reality. They as a whole refuse to believe that the "economic ship" has hit an iceberg as they continue to party and dance the night away.

The U.S. Economy is over 75% small business driven. The vast number of new jobs in America are small business created. Small business owners generate the majority of taxes paid at the local, county, state and federal levels. Slowing small business recovery with more and more regulation, costly tax burdens and the reduction of incentives for small business investors is not only disastrous for small business as a whole but is disastrous for the country as a whole.

There will be no economic recovery without small business growth. No new jobs, no revenues to government, no consumer spending and no support for programs to help others get started on a path to better lives. Basically without a full 180 degree turn by big government away from unlimited spending and taxation, there is only one result that can occur. Mass failure!

Remember this...there is not a business in existence today that did not start with an individual who had an idea. Every big business was once a small business with independent people working hard to be successful. Without small business there is no big business and much like the disappearance of the dinosaurs, so too will our country's economic engine sputter and stop. When this finally happens, big government spenders and all those expensive unsustainable programs will also stop. Maybe then, when big government is dead and buried will we be able to start all over again and harness the power of what made America the greatest power on earth…the small business entrepreneur!

As a Middle Aged or Senior person, you need to be very worried about the growth of government at all levels and the unsustainable burden being placed on small businesses everywhere. If you are depending on investments, pensions, savings, equity in property and continued working, you are at great risk. The continued good health of everything you depend upon is tied directly to the economic engine that has made us the economic power house of the world - small business. Each one of you needs to speak out in support of small business and reduced taxes to prevent the erosion of what you have worked so hard to build.
