True, that is a great old county song, but here are some steps to help you when a divorce happens in your family:

D. Don't say anything negative about the ex, no matter what you

really feel. It may be hard, but it is important.

I. Involve yourself more than ever with your grandchild's life.

They need to know more than ever that nothing has changed

in your love for them.

V. Venting will be your daughter/son's priority. Let them-listen only

offer no advise unless asked.

O. Offer patience and support for your child and grandchildren.

R. Respect their space. Going through a divorce is like experiencing

a death. Give him/her a chance to morn the loss of the marriage.

C. Comfort your child and grandchildren. They are going thorough

a tough time and need your support and love/

E. Encourage both your child and grandchildren to voice their

feelings. This will give you an opportunity to know what areas

are particularly troublesome.

It is hard as a parent to watch your child and their children hurt, but with your love and support, they can do it.
